When you think of celebrities you think they have got it all – a life of glitz and glamour. It’s hard to believe that they too go through the trials and trauma that happens to the common man. Domestic violence is one such situation which can happen to anyone, no matter what their background or social status. What matters in such situations is coming out of the abusive relationship and fighting for yourself. Here are some well-known Hollywood names that underwent domestic violence, but stood up against it.
1. Tommy Mottola and Mariah Carey
The popular American singer Mariah Carey opened up in the Larry King Live show about how she was mentally abused by her partner Tommy Motolla. It had affected her personally as well as professionally.
2. Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston had a very violent relationship with her husband Bobby Brown. She used to be beaten up and bruised severely during their arguments.
3. Sean Penn and Madonna
Sean Penn used to have violent outbursts of which Madonna used to be the prime target. She suffered this abuse for a long time until finally divorcing him in 1988.
4. Ike Turner and Tina Turner
In her autobiography, Tina Turner revealed how she was raped and abused by her husband Ike Turner. She used to be given cigarette burns as well, as “punishment” whenever he had his outbursts.
5. Halle Berry
Halley Berry talked about her abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend, which had led to a severe injury when he hit her very hard on the ear. However, she did not name this guy.
6. Tommy Lee Jones and Pamela Anderson
While Pamela Anderson was holding their child, Tommy Lee Jones kicked her. Nothing validates an action like this. Tommy Lee Jones was sentenced to prison for this action.
7. Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson is popular for his short-temper and rage. He himself has admitted that he had hit Oksana during one of his outbursts. They are divorced now, citing this reason. It also came to be known that she also broke her teeth during one of his episodes.
8. Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards
The Two and a Half Men fame Charlie Sheen used to verbally abuse his wife Denise Richards, including placing threats to kill her. Denise Richards finally filed for divorce after being unable to stand it any longer.
