Eight people were killed and at least 11 got injured when a 29 year old psychopath young man in a rented pickup truck drove down onto a heavily busy bicycle path near the Hudson River in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon. Police identified attacker as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov. He is from Uzbekistan and had been living in the US since 2010.

As per a senior law enforcement officer a handwritten note in Arabic was found in that rental truck that said the attack was done in the name of ISIS. Although ISIS has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but some of its supporters celebrated it on social media.

In the past two years, a terrorism investigation done by FBI resulted in charges against five people from Uzbekistan and one from Kazakhstan of supplying material support to ISIS. Many of the men have pleaded guilty. Till now it is unclear whether Mr. Saipov was also connected with that specific investigation.
The suspect, Sayfullo Saipov who is in custody is an Uber driver. Uber has issued the following statement:

The attacker driver was shot in the abdomen by police after hopping out of the truck waving guns in his each hand which turned out to be a pellet gun and paintball gun. The injured attacker underwent surgery and was in critical condition on Tuesday evening. He is expected to survive.

This whole incident is still under investigation, and being investigated as terrorism. Law enforcement sources and witnesses from the accident location reported the suspect was yelling “Allahu Akbar”. Online records illustrates that the suspect had multiple interactions with law enforcement in several states earlier.
“This was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror,” New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said, “aimed at innocent civilians, aimed at people going about their lives who had no idea what was about to hit them.”

We condemn this heinous and cowardly act of terrorism, our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and prayers with those injured!
